A musing and movie review in one! Exciting! [Jul. 8th, 2006|01:55 pm]
FIrst, a musing: why is it that otherwise intelligent people repeatedly do things that are bad for them? Like going out, getting obliterated, and getting up and doing it all over again? Drinking is expensive, bad for you, and you most likely will not feel awesome the next day. So why does our brain selectively eliminate that feeling-like-shit sensation and not stop us when we try and put another libation to our mouth? Our brain is an amazing machine, but for some reason all common sense lapses when confronted with a night of drinking. Wierd.

Ok, a brief summary of how I felt about Pirates:

- The character of Jack Sparrow became way overdone. A couple of tics were still interesting (shooting the bird in the opening, the undead monkey bit) but overall, I felt like someone was forcing Mr. Depp to play this character, instead of him having fun with it. I little disappointing there.

- I missed Captain Barbossa a whole lot. It was so much better when the villain was a person instead of a drippy CGI octopus. Looked great, but I didn't feel like he was a entity, just some pixels. His crew and ship looked incredible.

- I no longer hate Keira Knightley. And Orlando Bloom learned some more facial expressions!

- Why is no one talking about the voodoo preistess in the bayou? She was OUTSTANDING! The best character in the movie!

- Overall, it was good, and a nice lead-in to the third film. I feel like not much happened, and I was not expecting so much to be unresolved. I felt like I had walked out of the second film of a bona fide trilogy. Awesome feeling. PoTC3 will be awesome.

I dind't read your entire review, because I'm deathly afraid of spoilers, but I can't wait to see POTC2!!!
It's not out here...and I have to admit that I have a strange urge to see it in Hindi...as well as english of course.

What is your day/night like Tuesday/Thursday? I can do the day on Tuesday or anytime Thursday. We need to discuss the movie over a meal, then see it again, then discuss it again over some ice cream.
